About the Adults Section

The adults section covers local social/entertainment options plus offers some information on adult education and careers in the Hills District.

Use the menu at the top, the left or here to navigate to the area of your interest :-

The social/entertainment section has a common section listing entertainments likely to appeal to all age groups eg cinema & theatre contact information), however the rest is split into different age groups as different venues and activities appeal to, and cater for, younger adults or more senior adults. Age groups are grouped as young adults (eg teenagers and 20's), adults 30-49, adults 50-64, seniors 65+. These are rough and arbitrary categories only so feel free to fit into any category you like regardless of your actual age!

The latest feature article below focuses on single parents living or working in the Hills District. We hope you find it of interest.

Feature: Single Parents in the Hills

Life can be very difficult as a single parent, particularly in this area which is full of happy new families.

Due to the fact that many people have moved to the Hills from elsewhere, it means that newly single people may find that they often don't have a support network of family, friends or work colleagues in the area. This, added to the burdens of coping with a relationship breakdown, financial pressures and a lack of babysitting can lead to isolation. However, there is no need to be alone because there are social groups in the area which exist purely for single parents and other organisations which can also offer support.

There are two social groups, run by volunteers who are single parents themselves: Parents Without Partners and Single With Children. See the details below for further information or visit their websites.

Alternatively, see below for other organisations with websites for single parents.

Parents Without Partners

Parents Without Partners is part of an international organisation which aims to recognise the special needs of children in single parent families.

Affordable functions and activities for adults, for children and for families are held, often with subsidies for the children, in order to establish a network of support for single parents and their children. Further information and membership enquiries can be directed to 02 9634 7502 up to 8 p.m or email pwp-hills@hotpop.com.

Single With Children

Single with Children was launched in Oct 2005 as a social group which evolved from The Single Parent Family Association Inc (SPFA). The vision of the organisation is to allow single parents to get together with their families in a safe, non-threatening environment and focus on the unique and special challenges of raising children alone. Single with Children offers affordable social functions for adults and children.
