Fridge Buyback - Hills Shire Council - Special Rural Collection on 29th September

  • The Fridge Buyback Program, is a greenhouse reduction program that collects working second fridges from homes is about to be opened up to people living in rural parts of The Hills Shire.
  • The program carry out a special collection run from rural areas on 29 September especially for residents of Glenorie, Middle Dural, Kenthurst, Annangrove, Nelson, Box Hill and Maraylya.
  • Unfortunately, Council will not be able to pick up fridges from Sackville North, South Maroota or Maroota due to large travel distances.
  • All residents with a fridge 10 years or older and larger than 250 litres can participate in Fridge Buyback.
  • As well as free collection, residents may also be eligible to receive a $35 rebate if six steps or less are involved in the removal of your fridge.
  • If you are interested in saving money while helping the environment it’s time to get rid of your old second hand fridge by registering to have your fridge collected on 9843 0473.

Mobile Muster - Recycle Your Unwanted Mobile Phone

  • MobileMuster is the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry, and is funded by 16 leading mobile phone manufacturers and network carriers.

    It is estimated there are currently more than 16 million disused mobile phones cluttering people's homes and offices around Australia.

    Key mobile recycling facts:

    • Australians upgrade or exchange their mobile phones every 18 to 24 months, meaning there are approximately 16 million unused mobile phones stashed away at home or in the office.
    • Over 90 per cent of materials in mobile phones can be recovered such as nickel, cadmium, cobalt, gold, silver, copper, plastics and other metals.
    • One tonne of mobile phone circuit boards can yield about the same amount of precious metals as 110 tonnes of gold ore, 123 tonnes of silver bearing ore and 11 tonnes of copper sulphide ore.

Blacktown City Council give away 2 free native shrubs or small trees to Blacktown residents per year.

  • Collect your free shrubs at the Blacktown Council Nursery, Kent Street, Blacktown (rear of the Showgrounds)
    • Tues-Fri 9am-3pm
  • Proof of being a resident in Blacktown will be required, so take along a Rates bill if you are a ratepayer or similar identification including your address (e.g. Driver's licence) if you are renting a property.
