Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. There are 33,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary's main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.
The Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
- FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
- FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook has a strong local community service ethic. This is highlighted by the following:
Major recipients from our Fundraising Activities
CanTeen: The Australian Organisation for Young People Living with Cancer - is a national support organisation for 12 - 24 year olds who are living with cancer, and is the only organisation of its kind in Australia
Lifeline: Lifeline was founded in 1963 by the late Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker, after he received a call by a distressed man, who three days later took his own life. Determined not to let loneliness, isolation or anxiety be the cause of other deaths, Sir Alan launched a crisis line, which operated out of the Methodist Central Mission in Sydney
The Warrah Society: In the Hills District, northwest of Sydney Australia, Warrah Society provides services for children and adults with disabilities including a vocational training program
Victorian Bush File Appeal: Our Club responded to the recent tragic bush fires in Victoria by arranging a bucket appeal at Cherrybrook Shopping Village over the seven days following the disaster. The management of Cherrybrook Shopping Village were very cooperative and assisted by producing several signs to support our activities. The Club raised in excess of $24000
International Project: The Club is involved in a ‘Sister Club' relationship with the Rotary Club of Santo in northern Vanuatu where we are involved in the construction of a 22 Bed Hospital at Sola on Vanualava Island
