Feature: Blacktown City Lions Club

Blacktown City Lions Club is a Local Group who are committed to contributing towards the Local Community's Welfare by means of voluntary labour in a variety of projects which are aimed at raising monies to benefit both Local and International "Worthy Causes". And we still have time for FUN too!!!!

Lions have been part of the Australian Community since 1947 and are committed to serving the Local Community without promise or want of reward.

To e nable the Club to donate monies to many a worthy cause, regular monthly events are held, such as:

  • Sausage Sizzles,
  • BBQs to support a Blacktown Council project
  • Selling "Lucky Envelopes"
  • Selling Christmas Cakes from November
  • Assorted other activities during the year .

Some of those "Causes" include:

  • Salvation Army Appeal,
  • Leprosy Mission,
  • Children's Burns Unit at Westmead Hospital,
  • Riding for the Disabled,
  • Habitat for Humanity Australia,
  • Zonta,
  • Cancer Council,
  • Eye Health
  • Assorted Youth Projects
  • and many many more!

Annual conferences and District activities enable Local Lions Clubs to get together and unite in working for worthwhile projects. They also create the means of meeting similarly committed persons right up to an International level.

Recently three members of the Blacktown Lions Club attended a Formal Dinner at Rydges Hotel Rosehill where the Guest Speaker was Mr. J Frank Moore III a Past President of Lions International. The dinner was to raise monies for Campaign Sight First II -a Lions International project dedicated to maintaining, improving and restoring vision to millions of visually impaired persons around the World . A large amount of money was successfully raised at this Function and that will contribute towards the many Eye Hospitals and Clinics, Optical equipment, eye surgery, eye glasses and trained ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses and other professional eye care persons - that are funded by Lions Clubs International Foundation.

Twice monthly Dinner Meetings enable all members who attend, to be kept up to date with current activities as well as International news and forthcoming projects .It is also an opportunity to enjoy some social interaction with the other members of the Club whilst sharing a meal together and organizing Volunteers for the next project.

Social Club outings are always on the Agenda and we have experienced some great weekends away, day trips and evenings out - which only serves to increase the bonding of the Club Members and to firmly cement friendships.

Joining Lions provides opportunities for fellowship, personal growth and development, ethical and cultural awareness, community awareness, the opportunity to 'serve' and make a difference- and of course FUN!

We would love to increase our membership and invite interested persons to call on telephone number 02 9672 4858 for further information..
