What Will Exercise Do For Me? The Benefits of Different Types of Exercise.

Kaz Muddell of Mind Body Fitness Solutions with client By Kaz Muddell, Mind Body Motion

There are so many reasons why we should eat well and move more! Studies have shown that regular exercise can significantly increase life expectancy and improve overall health. Regular physical activity can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis. It can reduce or improve symptoms of diabetes and hypertension as well as numerous other conditions. Plus it's a great way to manage stress and increase your energy levels. When you exercise, it makes you feel alive!

Cardiovascular training increases your heart rate and the increased heart rate you will achieve during your cardio workout will improve the condition of your heart and lungs, by training your heart to pump more blood in fewer beats and your lungs to move more oxygen with less effort. The improvement you will gain in your cardiovascular health will reduce your risk of heart disease, help to burn fat, improve your muscle mass and boost your metabolism.

Resistance training will provide greater muscular strength, improved muscle tone and appearance, increased endurance, enhanced bone density, and improved cardiovascular fitness. The body's metabolic rate improves with increases in muscle mass, which promotes long-term fat loss. More intense workouts elevate the metabolism for several hours following the workout. Weight training also provides functional benefits. Stronger muscles improve posture, provide better support for joints, and reduce the risk of injury from everyday activities. Studies have clearly proven that consistent strength training can increase bone density and prevent osteoporosis.

Core conditioning will work the muscles in your core and will improve the effectiveness of movements in your limbs. By creating a strong, stable base for your muscles you can optimise the strength and flexibility of each limb. Your body core is the midsection of your body, from your groin to your shoulders. The core includes the pelvis, abs, back and chest muscles. It is this core that offers stability, balance and flexibility. If your core is not properly conditioned it will limit your physical abilities.

Flexibility conditioning such as yoga and pilates encourages you to think about how you perform everyday movements. They heighten your body's awareness which in turn improves your overall agility, flexibility and strength. It ensures that your body is working optimally at all times. They teach you about breathing, stretching the body and strengthening the deep torso muscles which are important for posture.
