Well, really it is about searching the web or local websites that cater for local Professionals. Seek the most local Professional Counsellors that are in the area that is appropriate for you.

Maybe you can pop out from work, or on your way home after work, so someone near to where you live may be most suitable?

Check Accreditation

Then checking their credibility, it is important that you only consider speaking to an Accredited, Professional Counsellor. It is also important that they belong to the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), this means that they have to be up to date with all qualifications; they have on-going training and receive counselling supervision themselves.

These requirements are there to insure the Professional Counsellor that you speak to, is the best they can be. It is also important that they are qualified in the area that you are looking for, that it is a part of their service.

Have a Conversation - Are You on the Same Wavelength?

Once you have found this information out, you can consider ringing to speak to the Counsellor themselves, if there is a mobile telephone number, you will more than likely get straight through to them and can assess if you feel comfortable and relaxed speaking with them; and that they are on the same wave-length as you. This may take a couple of phone calls, but you can always call the one you are happiest with back, to make an appointment. None of this needs to take long, but it is important that you feel secure in the choice that you have made.
